Brunei Darussalam Hosts the 2024 Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) Conference

The Pacific Association of Quantity Surveyors (PAQS) is an international organization that unites Quantity Surveyors from the Asia-Pacific region. It serves as a platform for professionals to collaborate, share knowledge, and improve industry standards. The annual PAQS conference is a pivotal event where leaders, practitioners, and researchers gather to discuss the latest trends and innovations in Quantity Surveying.

This year, Brunei Darussalam had the honor of hosting the PAQS conference and UBSB proudly sponsored the event under the Gold Category, reflecting our strong commitment to supporting the growth and development of the Quantity Surveying profession.

The conference focused on the theme “Digitalisation Towards a Smart Nation,” showing how important it is for the Quantity Surveying profession to use new technology. This theme came up in many presentations and discussions, showing how digital tools and new ideas can help the profession grow in a fast-changing world.

The event kicked off with the main congress on 26th August 2024 at Songket Hall 1, 2 & 3 of the Rizqun International Hotel, Gadong, where participants engaged in insightful discussions and presentations. The following day, the closing ceremony marked the conclusion of the successful event. That evening, the PAQS Gala Night featured a dinner for all participants and included performances showcasing the beauty of each participant’s country, providing a festive and cultural end to the conference.

Several key members of our team played significant roles during the conference. Sr Mohamed Humdhan was part of the scientific / selection committee responsible for assessing the proposed papers submitted by participants and coordinating the presentations by keynote and concurrent session speakers. His efforts ensured that the sessions ran smoothly and that the content presented was of the highest quality. In addition to his conference duties, Sr Humdhan also attended the PAQS Committee Meeting on 24th August 2024, representing PUJA (Brunei) in the Research Committee.

Sr Wong Chee Kwong was responsible for organizing the conference’s golf tournament, a key highlight of the event. Held on Saturday, 24th August 2024, the tournament offered an excellent opportunity for networking and camaraderie among attendees. Besides his involvement in the tournament, Sr Wong Chee Kwong also represented PUJA (Brunei) in the Digitalisation Committee during the PAQS Committee Meeting held on 24th August 2024.

Sr Ak. Muhd. Adib played an important role in preparing the conference booklet and setting up the exhibition booth. He managed the invitation of vendors and ensured the booth’s preparation, creating a smooth and professional setup that enhanced the experience for attendees. His dedication to these tasks greatly contributed to the smooth execution of these essential components of the event.

Additionally, our Young Quantity Surveyors (YQS) were instrumental in supporting various aspects of the conference, including assisting with registration, setting up for dinner events, and participating in the Gala Night performance. Their active involvement significantly contributed to the success of both the YQS activities and the main event.

Our Managing Director/General Manager, Sr Mohd Shafie Hj Mohd Yusof, alongside with Sr Wong Chee Kwong, served as assessors for several presenters. They were also responsible for presenting Certificates to speakers during the sessions they were designated to oversee.

UBSB’s participation in the 2024 PAQS Conference highlights our commitment to developing our team and supporting the Quantity Surveying community. We are proud to have played a key role in this event and look forward to continuing our efforts to advance the profession.
